HL7 mission - providing standards for interoperability in health care with a view to improve the quality of services and reducing the cost of developing IS.
Purpose: development of standards, guidelines and methodologies for creation of effective health ISs, which allow meaningful exchange of health data.
Founded in 1987. Since 1994 became an international organization standards developing organization accredited by ANSI (American National Standards Institute).
HL7 has established procedures for decision-making by the consensus of stakeholders (software vendors, health insurance companies, universities, government agencies, hospitals, etc.). Stakeholders work is usually unpaid.
