Within the framework of the project "Modernization of Medical Education and Science" (hereinafter referred to as the Project) six medical universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed 3-year memorandums with foreign universities belonging to the top 500 best. Within the framework of this project, new approaches to the selection and admission of applicants to medical universities will be introduced, educational programs of higher education and residency will be revised, including together with the Nazarbayev University medical school.
To further develop the system of independent assessment of the competencies of students and graduates of medical universities, a single national multi-stage examination based on USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) system will be introduced.
In the framework of the Project implementation, a whole range of measures will be implemented additionally:
1) the transition of medical and pharmaceutical universities to autonomy, advanced training of managers on the basis of Nazarbayev University and leading foreign universities;
2) introduction of a modern model of university clinics-academic medical centers on the basis of medical universities with the support of organizations of practical public health, the mentoring institute;
3) increasing the capacity of the faculty and staff of medical universities, based on assessing and determining the level of qualifications of teachers of medical universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
We recall that, the goal of the project of modernization of medical education and science is the institutionalization of medical education and science, taking into account the requirements of international standards, priorities and characteristics of the national health system to improve the quality of medical care for the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
